THE JANSKYS @ THE SHAKESPEARE 12/7/13
For their album launch, The Janskys invited Rhys Bethell down to open up the night. There are three things to know about Rhys Bethell – he has a captivating voice; his dexterity on a guitar is mesmerising; and he deserves recognition. He’s moving to Newcastle, which makes me sad because Sheffield is losing a true talent.
The Janskys were a joy to watch as they rocked through their set. Live is where they really come into their own, and they look thoroughly humbled to be onstage playing their carefully crafted songs in a manner that was tighter than Bradley Wiggins shorts. My personal highlights included ‘Motion Sickness’ and ‘Brocco Bank’. The band entertained a packed and sweaty Shakespeare with a rather eclectic and ultimately feel-good set. You should buy their music because The Janskys are very relevant right now.
